about

As a member of Detroit’s original collective of DJs and producers, Mike Grant left for the military shortly before the debut of ‘the first wave’. Mike returned as a DJ/producer releasing a collaboration titled Nature of The Beast under the name Black Noise on Metroplex. Looking to continue in the spirit of early Detroit labels, Mike formed Moods & Grooves Records in the same tradition.

Mike Grant’s EP symbolizes the elements that make up the label name Moods & Grooves. Hypnotize is a closer that uses a dirty filtered vocal sample and repetitive bassline. The Hypnoreprise offers a Detroit ‘late night’ mix reminiscent of the Music Institute’s heyday. Rest In Peace My Brother starts the flip side with a tribute to a departed relative. Sunlight has a classic Detroit feel, abstract strings and minimal but funky drum programming providing aural pleasure.
